HO EMD SD40-2 Locomotive RBMN #3051 (ATH-1244)

An HO-scale EMD SD40-2 Locomotive in RBMN livery is a fully assembled, ready-to-run model designed to bring authentic 1970s diesel power to a freight roster on hobby layouts. The SD40-2, introduced in 1972 as part of EMD’s Dash-2 family, earned a reputation for reliability and versatility, and this model captures that heritage with a heavy die-cast frame, all-wheel drive, and precise gearing for smooth, quiet operation on HO track. It carries fine prototypical detailing—from see-through cab windows and Celcon handrails to detailed fuel tanks, gauges, breather pipes, and a host of small touches—along with flexible MU hoses, a trainline hose, and LED lighting that recreates day- and night-time appearances, including bi-directional headlights, ditch lights, and beacons where applicable.

Non-sound versions are DCC-ready with a 21-pin NEM plug for simple digital control, while sound-equipped variants feature onboard DCC with a SoundTraxx Econami decoder and a single cube speaker, delivering engine, horn, and bell sounds in both DC and DCC modes (some functions are limited in DC). All functions are NMRA-compatible in DCC, with CVs adjustable via a CV chart included in the box. The locomotive rides on RP25 wheels with all-wheel pickup and a heavy die-cast frame for traction, plus McHenry scale knuckle couplers and prototypical details such as flexible hoses, see-through dynamic brake and radiator fans, and detailed ventilation. A minimum 18-inch radius is recommended, with 22 inches or larger preferred for smooth operation on curves and longer consists.
