HO EMD SD40-2 Locomotive with DCC and Sound, UP #8072 (ATH-1251)
HO EMD SD40-2 Locomotive with DCC and Sound in Union Pacific livery, UP 8072, is an HO-scale, fully assembled, ready-to-run model that captures the look and performance of EMD’s Dash-2 workhorse. It’s designed for realistic operation on a hobby layout, pairing prototype-accurate detailing with dependable, smooth-running performance to bring UP-era scenes to life.
Inside, it features a DCC decoder with SoundTraxx Econami sound, a single cube speaker, and operation that works in both DC and DCC. Engine, horn, and bell sounds respond in DC and all functions are NMRA-compatible in DCC, with full function control and lighting available in DCC mode. Bi-directional LED lighting provides front and rear headlights, and ditch lights or beacons appear where the prototype called for them. Built on a heavy die-cast frame with a 5-pole motor and precision gears, it delivers steady pulling power and quiet operation, with all-wheel electrical pickup for reliable performance. Fine detailing includes see-through cab windows, wire grab irons, photo-etch windshield wipers, and McHenry scale knuckle couplers. Minimum operating radii are 18 inches (22 inches recommended), and a CV chart is included to tailor performance and MU lashups for prototypical operations.
