Athearn's HO-scale BethGon Coalporter with Coal Load is a faithful model of Bethlehem Steel's BethGon coal car, designed for HO layouts to haul coal in realistic unit trains. The BethGon design is known for its bathtub-style bottom, which increases carrying capacity and lowers the center of gravity for steadier tracking on the rails.

This model is rich with authentic details, including separate wireform grab irons and etched metal coupler platforms, a separately applied brake wheel, and a removable coal load. It rides on 36-inch machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, is weighted for stable pulling power, and uses body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers. The highly detailed, painted and printed body enhances realism, with multiple road numbers available and a minimum 18-inch radius for easy operation on most HO layouts. One end also features a rotary coupler to allow the train to pass through a rotary unloader without uncoupling.
