HO GEN 57' FGE Mechanical Reefer, FGCX #11952 (ATHG-1119)

HO-scale 57-foot mechanical reefer for Fruit Growers Express is a meticulously detailed, ready-to-run model that faithfully recreates a mid-20th-century mechanical refrigerator car. Drawn from prototype drawings and field measurements, it captures the car’s proportions and detailing, including see-through protective screens on the ends, visible end-wall corrugation, an inner bulkhead, and end platforms. Two exhaust-stack styles are provided to match the era, and factory-applied end ladders and door-closure rods complete the look. Some versions can be equipped with onboard SoundTraxx sound for added realism, while a grime-ready finish offers a natural starting point for weathering to resemble In-Service equipment.

Under the shell there is full underframe detail including Keystone cushioning, air-brake reservoir, control valve, brake cylinders and plumbing, plus a fuel tank; the model also features machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, 100-ton roller bearing trucks, and a weighted chassis for smooth operation. McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers, trainline hoses with silver ends, and the option of body-mounted or truck-mounted brakes mirror prototype configurations. Two different exhaust stack styles—straight pipe with a flapper or a T-shaped “smokejack”—are included to match the era. Fully assembled and painted/printed for prototypical realism, it’s designed for HO layouts with a minimum radius of 18 inches (22 inches recommended).
