HO GEN 57' FGE Mechanical Reefer with Sound (ATHG-1130)

An HO-scale model recreating a 57-foot mechanical refrigerator car from Fruit Growers Express, designed for ready-to-run operation and prototype accuracy. Fully assembled and scaled from drawings and field measurements, it captures key details such as see-through protective screens on the ends, end platforms, an inner bulkhead, and factory end ladders, with BNFE white livery. A version with onboard SoundTraxx sound offers authentic refrigeration audio for HO layouts, and the model features a detailed injection-molded body, machined RP25 wheels, and a weighted chassis for smooth, reliable operation.

Inside, the underframe is richly detailed with braking components, reservoirs, control valve and piping, plus a fuel tank, while two exhaust-stack styles reflect era variations. Trainline hoses with silver ends, end platforms, and a choice of body- or truck-mounted brakes mirror prototype practice, and McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers are included. The car rides on 100-ton roller bearing trucks and is designed for HO radii of 18 inches (22 inches recommended). It’s weathering-friendly, offering a grime-ready starting point, and sound-equipped versions reproduce authentic reefer audio that cycles on and off at low power with volume adjustable on the sound board.
