N ACF4600 Covered Hopper Model (ATHG-1550)

An N-scale ACF 4600 Center Flow Covered Hopper Model is a detailed, prototype-accurate replica of American Car and Foundry’s popular 3-bay hopper, designed for model railroad layouts. The real car, introduced in the mid-1960s, used a rounded body and gravity unloading to handle grain and other bulk loads, and this model captures that classic silhouette and purpose for realistic grain-train scenes on an N-scale layout.

The model reflects three body styles—early with a high side ladder and brake wheel, mid with a lower brake wheel and shorter end ladders, and late with double side stiffeners—as well as round or trough hatches, a photo-etched roofwalk, and detailed outlets, with a separately applied brake wheel. It rides on screw-mounted 100-ton trucks with 36-inch machined metal wheels and uses body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers for authentic handling. The injection-molded body is highly detailed and finished with accurate paint and printing, and it features a minimum turning radius of 9¾ inches to suit standard layouts. Finished with a grime-ready primer that mimics faded prototype hues, this model serves as a perfect starting point for adding grime and rust to match a specific era.
