HO Scale GATC 2600 Airslide Covered Hopper, GACX/Diamond Sugar is an accurate, prototype-inspired model of General American Transportation Company's early Airslide design. These cars were used for bulk dry goods such as sugar and bakery products, with an Airslide system that fluidizes the load by pumping air through an air-permeable bottom so it flows easily to the outlets for unloading.
The model offers three body styles and rich detail, including a detailed underbody with outlet piping, a see-through roof walk, factory-installed wire grab irons and brake piping, and separately applied roof hatches and brake wheel. It rides on either roller bearing or Bettendorf trucks, features machined metal wheels with RP25 contours, and is weighted for smooth operation. With body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers, accurate paint and printing, and a highly detailed injection-molded body, this HO-scale hopper is ready for layouts with minimum 18-inch curves.
